  • 6 large Eggs fresh eggs
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Half and Half can use more milk if unavailable
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract use pure vanilla
  • 1 tbsp Cinnamon adjust for spiciness
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar for topping
  • 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour omit for gluten-free
  • 1/2 cup Butter melted
For Topping (Optional)
  • 1 cup Pecans can swap with walnuts
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar for dusting
  • 2 large Fresh Bananas sliced
  • 1 cup Berries raspberries or blueberries
  • 1 cup Whipped Cream for serving

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Cut the crusty French bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in a greased 9x13 casserole dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, half and half, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down to ensure all pieces are soaked.
  4. Cover the casserole with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 2 hours.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, and melted butter until crumbly, then sprinkle over the casserole.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) about 30 minutes before baking.
  7. Bake for 45-55 minutes until golden and puffed, then let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
