For the Casserole
  • 6 croissants Croissants Use medium-sized for best balance.
  • 6 large Eggs Fresh eggs are preferable.
  • 1 cup Half and Half or Whole Milk Substitute with plant-based milk for a lighter version.
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Deli or Leftover Ham Any variety or turkey ham for lighter option.
  • 2 cups Shredded Swiss or Gruyere Cheese Substitute with cheddar for sharper taste.
For the Garnish
  • 1 tablespoon Powdered Sugar Optional for garnish.

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly spray a 9x6 (or 9x11) baking dish with cooking spray.
  3. Tear the croissants in half and arrange them cut-side up in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Cut the ham into thirds and distribute it evenly around the croissants, and sprinkle cheese over the top.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, half and half or milk, Dijon mustard, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  6. Cover the dish with foil and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  7. Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and bake it covered for 20 minutes, then bake uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  8. Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving, sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
