Ingredients
  

For the Meat Sauce
  • 1 lb Ground Beef Can substitute with Italian sausage.
  • 1 medium Onion Chopped, yellow or sweet preferred.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil Can substitute with vegetable oil.
  • 24 oz Tomato Sauce Canned or homemade.
  • 6 oz Tomato Paste
  • 1 cup Water Use the tomato sauce can for measurement.
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano
  • 1 tsp Dried Basil
  • Salt & Pepper To taste.
For the Cheese Layer
  • 16 oz Mozzarella Cheese Shredded.
  • 15 oz Cottage Cheese Or Ricotta Cheese.
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese Fresh grated preferred.
For the Structure
  • 12 sheets Lasagna Noodles Traditional or oven-ready.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and coat a large baking dish with non-stick spray.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, and then sauté onions and garlic until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef, cook until browned, and drain excess fat.
  4. Mix in tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20-25 minutes.
  5. Cook lasagna noodles per package instructions until al dente.
  6. Spread a layer of meat sauce in the prepared baking dish, layer noodles, cottage cheese, and Parmesan, repeat until ingredients are used.
  7. Finish with meat sauce on top and sprinkle mozzarella cheese.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 50-60 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  9. Let the lasagna cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
